Rebates are offered by retailers or manufacturers on a chosen product. Rebates are a type of sales promotions that are primarily used as incentives or to supplement product sales. By definition, Wikipedia tells us a rebate is an amount of money paid by way of “reduction, return or refund on what has already been paid or contributed.” The most common type of rebate is the Mail-In Rebate. Usually, this means that after a purchase the purchaser will mail in a coupon, receipt or barcode to receive back a certain amount of money or some other consideration. The general rule is that the turnaround time for rebates is about four to eight weeks. Rebates are sometimes paid by check; however, quite often purchasers receive rebates with a pre-paid card. While many come in the form of money, some rebates will be in the form of gas cards or for free merchandise. For example, at West Suburban Office Products our website ( www.westsubonline.com) has a link to what we call the Rebate Zone. The link takes our office supply customers to our companion website: www.biggestbook.com, which has a number of manufacturer’s rebates available at any given time. These rebates come directly from the manufacturer. Most of the time there are some really good rebates offered by HP on toners and ink jet cartridges. Right now there is a $20 rebate on both when you meet the conditions they require. Forms to use to receive these and other rebates are also available at biggestbook.com. Other rebates are offered by 3M, Swingline, Fellowes and may other office products manufacturers. To see what rebates are currently available today, go to biggestbook.com.
