Health Insurance open enrollment for anyone who does not have health insurance, or wanted to change, ended on 3-31-14. Open enrollment resumes 11-15-2014.

Between 3-31-14 and 11-15-14, you must have a qualifying event…like loss of coverage from an employer or spouse…to apply. There may be some “special” and/or “hardship” circumstances that may qualify. Contact Russ Caforio @630-495-2901 to discuss any circumstances you may have.

IMPORTANT NOTE… anyone who started the process before 3-31-14 and “checks the box” on the application that says they tried before 3-31 and had “trouble”, should be able to “complete” the process and still receive a policy. This will likely be around only till mid-April.

After 3-31-14, the next open enrollment is scheduled from 11-15-14 to 1-15-15.

WARNING about subsidy eligibility: Use estimate first! If you input your actual income tax information to determine your eligibility for a subsidy, and your income is below 133% of the Federal Poverty Level for your family size, you will automatically be eligible for Medicaid ONLY and WILL NOT be allowed to apply on line for a subsidized medical plan of your choice.

The Express Link below is provided by Blue Cross and Russ Caforio and allows anyone seeking under age 65 health insurance access to all exchange/marketplace options…not just Blue Cross. You can also determine if you are eligible for a subsidy based on your income and the amount that would be applied to reduce your premium costs. If you are eligible, the plans and pricing will be adjusted to reflect your new monthly premiums.

If you qualify, plans are available direct with some insurance carriers and NOT through the exchange/marketplace, contact Russ Caforio-630-495-2901. All new plans are compliant with the Affordable Care Act.

This link also allows anyone age 65 or older access to Medicare Supplement Plans, Prescription Drug Card Plans and Medicare Advantage Plans.

My family and I will be hosting a team for the upcoming Walk for Wellness House on Sunday morning, May 4th in Hinsdale. Since most everyone has been affected by cancer in some way, this organization is really important to us. Unlike national organizations (which are valuable but often difficult to see the direct results of their work), we can attest to the fact that Wellness House continues to help people who live right here in the western suburbs. 

There are three ways you can help us reach our goal:

1) Join our Team as a walker/runner. Once you register, you will get your own fundraising page that you can use to send out emails and track your progress. It will be connected to our team page that will aggregate our progress. You can choose from a 3K Walk, 5K Fun Run or 5K Chip Timed Run. This year's Star Wars theme will add to the excitement during this fun family friendly event. 

2)If you can't join us for this inspirational morning, you can "virtually" join us in making a personal donation.

3)You can also help us spread the word by asking anyone else that you think would be interested to join us in this effort in supporting local families with cancer.

Wellness House provides individual programs of counseling, guidance and information so people can make more informed decisions about their cancer and its treatment. They offer a wide array of programs to help people learn to "live well" through their cancer experience. People can choose from nutritional counseling, exercise programs, relaxation techniques and more. There are programs for children and adults - all at no cost - thanks to the generosity of our caring community!
